Best Time to Visit the Weiße Wüste — Month-by-Month Guide

Choosing the right time to visit the Weiße Wüste can make a huge difference to your experience. Ägypten's Westliche Wüste has an extreme climate — scorching summers and cold winter nights — so timing your trip is important. This guide breaks down conditions month by month to help you plan the perfect desert safari.

Best Overall: October through April is the ideal window for visiting the Weiße Wüste. November and March offer the best balance of comfortable temperatures day and night.

Month-by-Month Weather Guide

January

Day: 18–20°C | Night: 3–7°C

Cold but beautiful. Crystal-clear skies perfect for stargazing. Pack warm layers for nights. One of the quieter months for tourism.

February

Day: 20–22°C | Night: 5–8°C

Slightly warmer than January. Excellent conditions for hiking and photography. Still cold at night but manageable with proper gear.

March

Day: 22–26°C | Night: 8–12°C

One of the best months to visit. Warm, pleasant days and comfortable nights. Occasional khamsin (sandstorm) winds possible but rare.

April

Day: 26–30°C | Night: 12–16°C

Warm and pleasant. Last comfortable month before summer heat arrives. Good for those who prefer warmer conditions.

May

Day: 32–36°C | Night: 16–20°C

Getting hot. Still possible to visit but daytime activities should be timed for morning and evening. Not ideal for extended treks.

June–August

Day: 38–48°C | Night: 22–28°C

Extremely hot. Not recommended for desert safaris. Temperatures can exceed 45°C and the sand is too hot to walk on during midday.

September

Day: 34–38°C | Night: 20–24°C

Still very hot. The season is beginning to turn but temperatures remain challenging for most visitors.

October

Day: 28–32°C | Night: 14–18°C

The safari season begins. Warm but comfortable days and pleasant evenings. An excellent month for desert camping and photography.

November

Day: 24–28°C | Night: 10–14°C

Arguably the best month to visit. Perfect daytime temperatures for exploration and cool, comfortable nights for camping. Peak season for Weiße Wüste tours.

December

Day: 20–22°C | Night: 5–9°C

Cool and crisp. Excellent visibility and stunning light for photography. Nights are cold — warm sleeping bags and layers essential.

Rainfall

The Weiße Wüste receives virtually no rainfall — less than 5mm per year. Rain is not a factor in planning your trip. However, on extremely rare occasions, a sudden desert rainstorm can occur, which creates temporary flash floods in wadis (dry riverbeds). Your Bedouin guide will know how to navigate safely in all conditions.
